End of Watch

Logan Medlock began his law enforcement career long before he ever put on a badge. Logan grew up watching his father, Randy Medlock, wear the uniform that he would one day wear himself. Logan had a heart for his fellow man and knew that he wanted to grow up to make a difference in his community. Even before he was serving his community as an officer, Logan spent 6 years serving on the Keavy Fire Department as a Volunteer Firefighter and worked as a Deputy Jailer at the Laurel County Detention Center for 1 year.
In August of 2019, Logan was hired by the London Police Department and started training at the Department of Criminal Justice Training in Basic Training Class 507. Logan graduated from DOCJT Basic Training Academy in January of 2020 after completing 20 weeks of training. During his time there, Logan distinguished himself as a natural leader and was selected as a squad leader for his Academy Class.
After returning to London, Logan began his field training phase, and after completing 15 weeks of field training, he was released on his own. Logan instantly had a passion for impaired driving enforcement. Logan had such a passion that he received the Governor’s Award for Impaired Driving Enforcement three years in a row.
Growing up and when he was off-duty, Logan would spend much of his time in church, hunting and fishing with his father. In school, Logan was part of the football team and met his wife, Courtney, when they were 15 years old, and they made an instant connection. They began their lives together, shared many wonderful years together and were married in April of 2016. They continued their journey together and grew their family in June of 2017 when they gave birth to their son, Brantley.
During his time as a Police Officer, Logan became trained in A.R.I.D.E (Advanced Roadside Impairment Detection Enforcement) and eventually completed the grueling task of becoming a Drug Recognition Expert (D.R.E.). Logan exemplified what it was to be an Officer and was selected as Officer of the Year for the London Police Department in 2022. Logan also received the Meritorious Service Award and the Medal of Valor for his actions during his career.
On October 30, 2022, Logan had just let his fellow officers in hopes of locating an impaired driver to get them off the road and make the streets of London safe. On that fateful night, Logan was traveling south on Main Street when an impaired driver ran a red light and struck his patrol vehicle. Logan dedicated his life to serving and protecting our community and in doing so made the ultimate sacrifice.
For his unwavering actions and dedication to his community Logan was posthumously awarded the rank of Sergeant.
Logan will be deeply missed every day, but his legacy of courage and service will continue to inspire us all.
